I’m David, and like many people in my sixties, I’ve lived through decades of extraordinary change.

I’ve seen Britain evolve through social change, technological revolutions and changing ideas about work, family, community and identity.

Those experiences led me to ask a simple question:

What kind of society are we creating for the generations that follow us?

That question became The Third Act.

In fact, I hope they don’t.

My aim isn’t to tell you what to think.

It’s to encourage us all to think more deeply.

Whenever possible, I draw upon:

I believe strong societies are built on:

• personal responsibility

• equality before the law

• curiosity rather than certainty

About me

I’m not a journalist.

I’m an ordinary person who has spent a lifetime observing how society changes.

My professional background was in technical support, where solving problems meant listening carefully, asking good questions and avoiding assumptions.

Now, in what I think of as life’s third act, I apply that same approach to the bigger questions shaping Britain and the wider world.
