About The Third Act
Life after work isn’t the end of the story.
For many people, retirement is something they’ve worked towards for decades.
Then it arrives.
The routines disappear. The career is over. Children have grown up. Friends move away. The question becomes:
What comes next?
The Third Act explores that question.
This publication is about building a meaningful life after work through creativity, curiosity and lifelong learning. It brings together personal experience, practical ideas and original fiction to explore what it means to grow older in a rapidly changing world.
Inside you’ll find articles on retirement, health, loneliness, technology, artificial intelligence, creativity, photography, travel and everyday life. You’ll also discover Stories from 2045, an original science fiction series imagining how today’s choices could shape tomorrow’s society.
I’m David, a retired technical support specialist from Britain. Like many people entering retirement, I’m discovering that this stage of life isn’t about slowing down—it’s about reinventing yourself.
I don’t claim to be an expert.
I’m simply asking the questions many of us are asking:
How do we stay healthy as we age?
How do we find purpose after our careers end?
Can we still learn new skills?
How will AI change retirement and everyday life?
What kind of future are we creating for the next generation?
This publication began as a personal journal. Over time, it evolved into something much bigger—a place to share ideas, experiences and conversations about making the most of life’s third act.
Whether you’re retired, approaching retirement, or simply thinking about what comes next, I hope you’ll find something here that makes you think, encourages you to try something new or reminds you that your best chapters may still lie ahead.
Welcome to The Third Act.
Because life after work isn’t the end of the story.
