Introducing Retirement Journeys
Life after work, one step, one lesson and one story at a time
Retirement Journeys is a new series within Diary of a Nobody.
When I retired, I thought I had a rough idea of what life would look like. Like many people, I imagined more free time, fewer responsibilities and the chance to enjoy life at a slower pace.
What I discovered was that retirement is not a destination.
It’s a journey.
Over the years, I have faced challenges that I never expected, including a bowel cancer diagnosis, adapting to life after surgery, managing type 2 diabetes and learning how to navigate retirement itself.
Along the way, I have also rediscovered creativity, taken up photography, explored artificial intelligence, travelled, learned new skills and found new ways to spend my time.
This series is not about telling people what they should do.
It is about sharing what happened to me, what I learned and how I adapted.
Some articles will be about health.
Some will be about retirement finances.
Some will be about travel, creativity, technology or simply observations from everyday life.
The common thread is learning how to keep moving forward.
Retirement Journeys is about life after work, the challenges we face, the lessons we learn and the opportunities we discover along the way.
I hope that by sharing my experiences, others might find encouragement, ideas or simply the reassurance that they are not alone in facing the ups and downs of this stage of life.
After all, retirement is not the end of the story.
For many of us, it is the beginning of a new chapter—one that often unfolds in ways we could never quite predict.
